Kyiv, Ukraine – With all the teams deployed throughout the country, a conference call was held late on Friday between the team leaders and the mission's head office in Kyiv.
“All observers reported back from the field that there is very substantial preparation and readiness for the election process,” said Lubomyr Markevych, the mission's chief observer.

Kyiv, Ukraine – The last team of Canadian election observers left Kyiv for the first round of the Ukraine presidential elections scheduled for this Sunday.
The observers underwent training prior to their deployment.
The H1N1 virus (Swine Flu) continues to rage through Ukraine with 21 of the 24 Oblasts now reporting a pandemic level. The total number of people infected with the flu has now reached in excess of 1.3 million with close to 70,000 people hospitalized. More than 50,000 new cases are being reported every day, with some 4,000 being hospitalized. Since Oct. 29, 265 people have died from the flu or subsequent complications. Although medical supplies and aid is starting to flow into Ukraine , the situation is still far from being under control, and more assistance is urgently needed.
UCC & CUF Appeal to Combat H1N1 Pandemic
Toronto, November 8, 2009 - The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) and the Canada Ukraine Foundation (CUF) are appealing to the Prime Minister of Canada to direct Canadian foreign aid funding immediately toward humanitarian aid to help the Government of Ukraine to fight the increasing global H1N1 flu pandemic.

First Canadian H1N1 Medical Aid Shipment Leaves For Kyiv.
Toronto, Ontario – The first two Canadian relief shipments of H1N1 medical supplies left Monday and Tuesday evening from Toronto’s Pearson Airport bound for Kyiv, Ukraine. The shipments were organized by the Canada Ukraine Foundation (CUF) in conjunction with the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) subsequent to an urgent appeal by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada, Ihor Ostash, just over a week ago.
Ladies and Gentlemen: Here is the status report as of 6 pm Toronto time on November 9, 2009:
1. The flight has gone, and 4000 lbs of supplies are on their way. A further 3000 lbs will come tomorrow (Wednesday) because AC couldn't take all of it at once.
Update Pandemic (H1N1):Nov. 6, 2009 Ministry of Health of Ukraine

The Ministry of Health of Ukraine released the following information thru its Press Centre (see attached), that as of Friday, the pandemic now covers 14 Oblasts, who now have reported cases that exceed WHO standards for pandemic proportions (those Oblasts shown in red), and that
• The pandemic now includes Kyiv, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, and Kirovograd, all of whom now exceed WHO standards for epidemic status
3 November 2009 -- According to the Ministry of Health of the Ukraine, the country has now recorded more than 250,000 cases of influenza-like illness, with 235 patients requiring intensive care. As of 2 November, 70 deaths from acute respiratory illness have been reported.
Regions in western Ukraine continue to show the highest rates of acute respiratory illness/influenza-like illness. The level of activity in the Kyiv area is also increasing rapidly.
