SWINE FLU EPIDEMIC IN UKRAINE

The H1N1 virus (Swine Flu) continues to remain at pandemic levels in Ukraine. The total number of people infected as of November 28th stands at 1.8 million -- up 100,000 since November 26 - with 108,000 people hospitalized since the outbreak. A total of 422 have died from the flu or subsequent complications in the last 4 weeks.

CUF, with the assistance of UCC and the CCCF, has now sent 3 shipments of aid to Ukraine, most recently including ventilators, oxymeters and capnographs, but more assistance is still needed.

CUF's third shipment concentrated primarily on ventilators and oxymeters, which are needed by hospitals to fight the flu in serious respiratory cases, and concentrated on the 24 hospitals in Western Ukraine, Chernivtsi and elsewhere that were worst hit by the pandemic.

Additional ventilators cost $11,000 each, plus accessories, and will be sent as additional donations are received.
CUF has set up a Special Ukraine H1N1 Fund to help with much needed medical and other help in Ukraine. Please donate.
