Abstract: “This paper describes the development and implementation of a mobile craniofacial surgical unit designed to address complex posttraumatic craniofacial deformities in both civilian and military casualties resulting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.”

EXCERPTS FROM THE PUBLICATION

“Patient O.K. is a 42-year-old male who was injured by shrapnel from a large caliber tank cannon on September 22, 2022, in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine. He was stabilized in the field, and a primary attempt at mandibular reconstruction was compromised by soft tissue deficiency. The patient was referred for comprehensive reconstruction. He presented with an exposed reconstruction plate, and a defect of the mandible, entire lower lip, chin, and floor of mouth (Fig. 5A, B). The patient was assessed on November 25, 2022, by the CUSAP team and taken to the OR on November 28, 2022, for a free scapular bone flap, including latissimus dorsi for mandibular and soft tissue reconstruction.”
